12:15 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
The Committee for the Advancement of Knowledge and Understanding (AKU Committee) proudly hosts the annual Research Luncheon on Thursday, November 4, 2010, from 12:15 to 2:15 p.m. EST. Every year, The Arc awards its prestigious Research Matters! Award at the well-attended and highly anticipated Research Luncheon to a researcher who has contributed in significant ways to research that enhances the lives of people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. The Arc’s AKU Committee has selected Dr. K. Charlie Lakin as this year’s distinguished Research Matters! Award recipient.
Dr. Lakin’s research efforts to document the changes, benefits and outcomes in public policies have made major contributions to the literature on and advocacy for community residential supports, family supports, waiting lists initiatives, and direct support workforce development. Dr. Lakin has been a member of the Board of Directors of The Arc of the United States, The Arc of Minnesota and The Arc of the Greater Twin Cities. He has also served as the long-time Chair of the Research Committee of The Arc of the United States, and was recently featured in a Minnesota Public Radio piece on the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Dr. Lakin will give a presentation at the Research Luncheon, sharing some of the highlights of his research over his 30-year career, how The Arc has played and continues to play a role in the importance of research and how he envisions research playing a significant role within The Arc in future years. Chapters and members of The Arc will be encouraged to hand-deliver a financial contribution at this event, showing their strong belief in and continued support for The Arc’s research and prevention efforts, both on the national and local level.
Join us in honoring Dr. Charlie Lakin at this year’s 60th Anniversary Convention and showing your support for research and prevention efforts throughout The Arc!
Tickets are $40.00 and can be ordered online by clicking here.
