Information for Educators
Your goal is to give every child the opportunity of an education. That’s our goal as well. Our position is that school age children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are entitled to a free, appropriate education in the least restrictive environment. They should be integrated in the general education classroom with the supports needed for them to be successful.
To make that happen, The Arc understands that you need support as an educator and as a valuable part of the team of parents, family members, friends, professionals and self-advocates all working together to make the most of any educational opportunity available to children with I/DD.
We can help you help your students providing you the information and resources you need and connecting you to a national network of community based chapters. We are the nation’s leading advocate for all people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families and the premier provider of the supports and services for your students with I/DD.
The Arc is your resource for…
- Understanding a variety of diagnoses;
- understanding the positions The Arc takes on critical education issues;
- helping you get involved in advocating for people with I/DD and understanding public policy related to I/DD and the educational system.
- connecting you with a local chapter for resources you can share with parents and other professionals working with someone with I/DD.
We invite you to explore our site, become a member, connect with our chapters and utilize all of the resources The Arc can provide for parents of children with I/DD.
