NCCJD is committed to revealing the many forms injustice takes in the lives of people with disabilities who come into the criminal justice system. Those accused of crimes they did not commit often face the greatest injustice of all, some losing their lives when coerced into giving false confessions. Robert Perske, respected author, advocate and long-time supporter of The Arc, compiled a list of people with intellectual disability who gave false confessions to begin documenting these otherwise hidden-away cases. Review Perske’s List (Excel format) to learn more about the issue, and submit the names of others with intellectual or developmental disabilities who have given false confessions. Their stories must be heard.
