Meet the New NCE Steering Committee Chairs

Carrie Hobbs Guiden

Greetings from Music City!

by Carrie Hobbs Guiden, NCE Steering Committee Chair

My name is Carrie Hobbs Guiden, and I have been Executive Director at The Arc Tennessee since 2009. I’ve had the privilege for working for chapters of The Arc in Indiana and Arizona during my 25 years in the field. I became involved with NCE at the invitation of another Chapter Exec and I have benefited greatly from all NCE has to offer. The knowledge and support of this talented group of leaders has been invaluable to me in my role as Chapter Exec. As Chairperson of the NCE Steering Committee I am committed to helping other leaders within The Arc take advantage of all NCE has to offer.

Karen Shoemaker

A Happy New Year to you from Bethlehem, PA!

by Karen Shoemaker, NCE Steering Committee First Vice-Chair

A Happy New Year to you from Bethlehem, PA! My name is Karen Shoemaker, and I have been the Executive Director of The Arc of Lehigh and Northampton Counties since 1999. After attending my first NCE Summer Leadership Institute in Pittsburgh back in 2006, I realized the importance of the NCE network and how it offered a huge support system of dedicated people with extraordinary passion and talent. NCE has been an integral part of my professional life as a chapter Exec as well as that of our chapter leadership. I am excited to build on what NCE offers during my term as First Vice-Chair of the Steering Committee, and look forward to working with all of you.

Steve McDonell

Greetings from Pittsburgh!

by Steve McDonell, NCE Steering Committee Second Vice-Chair

My name is Steve McDonell. I am the Vice President of Information Technology at ACHIEVA in Pittsburgh. I have been with my chapter of The Arc since 1998 and directly involved with NCE for the past 10 years. My active participation in NCE is something I value both professionally and personally. I hope to continue to improve what NCE offers during my term as Second Vice-Chair.

Please reach out to any or all of us with your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions to continue the growth and development of NCE.

All Hands In

NCE Annual Report Coming in February

Were you wondering just how great a year 2016 was for NCE? Now you can read all about it in the 2016 NCE Annual Report. Coming in February 2017, you will be able to read about the impact NCE is having on how we work better and smarter towards our shared purpose – ensuring people with intellectual and development disabilities achieve their full civil and human rights and are fully included in their communities. We will send you a link to the report in February! Thank you for all you've done to make NCE and The Arc great!

FINDS Survey

FINDS Survey Coming Later this Month

With the new year comes a new Family and Individual Needs for Disability Supports (FINDS) Survey. We need your input! The Research and Training Center on Community Living at the University of Minnesota in collaboration with The Arc, is seeking survey caregivers to share their perceptions on a range of life-span issues impacting individuals with I/DD. We are inviting people aged 18 years or older who provide frequent primary support to a person with an I/DD to participate. Stay tuned this upcoming month for its release.
