SIG Description

The Arc fundraising special interest group is intended to provide a forum where executives of The Arc, Board members, fundraising staff and volunteers from around the country can ask questions, share ideas and build upon our collective experience and training to enhance our fundraising programs. Participants are encouraged to actively join the conversation with their ideas, questions or thoughts on the topics under discussion.

SIG Facilitators

  1. Trudy Jacobson

    Senior Executive Officer, Development & Marketing, The Arc, Washington, DC

    The Arc brings together Trudy’s professional and personal passion on behalf of people with I/DD. As the parent of a young man with I/DD, her son reflects The Arc’s progress--he works full time and lives independently. Joining The Arc in 2009, Trudy mentors 8 team members in all facets of development (individual, major donor, planned giving as well as corporate and foundation) and marketing. Trudy was instrumental in The Arc’s rebranding initiative from its selection of CoreBrand to its inclusive sell-in process to The Arc’s national network of chapters. When Trudy joined the staff of The Arc, Individual Giving totaled less than $230,000 and the dynamic development program has more than tripled this is in just 4 years.

  2. Robert Bennett

    Director of Major Gifts and Planned Giving, The Arc, Washington, DC

    Robert Bennett started his career working for the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh for several years before moving to the Washington, DC area. Once here, he worked for the National SIDS Foundation as Director of Chapter Services-East, before accepting a position with the Alzheimer’s Association national office as Associate Director of Chapter Services for the Mid-Atlantic Region. Then, he worked for the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF), where he was responsible for developing and implementing a major gift and planned giving program. He has completed the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William & Mary's certificate program. In early 2014 he was very happy to be given the opportunity to join The Arc's major gift and planned giving efforts, which has been his professional focus over the past 18 years.

  3. Laura rahman

    Development Manager, The Arc, Washington, DC

    Laura oversees the strategy and execution of the individual giving program expanding the individual donor base for the organization. She came to The Arc in 2011 with more than 7 years of experience in individual fundraising. Laura has played an integral part in the successes of the individual fundraising program since she arrived at The Arc.

  4. Dave Tinker

    Vice President of Advancement, ACHIEVA, Pittsburgh, PA

    Dave is a certified AFP Master Trainer and is a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE). He received the Outstanding Fund Raising Executive Award from the AFP Western Pennsylvania chapter in 2013. Dave has raised tens of millions of dollars in donations for human service, health and educational nonprofits in Indiana, Ohio and Pennsylvania. He has spoken internationally on technology, fund raising and nonprofit management, has had numerous articles published in professional journals and has written curriculum for The Fund Raising School® at Indiana University’s Lilly School of Philanthropy.
