Morgan Stanley Smith Barney Recommends The Arc
The Arc is featured in Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Holiday Gift Catalog: Perspectives in Philanthropy – one of only 20 nonprofit organizations chosen among hundreds nominated this year. Help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities this season with one of these suggested gifts from the 2010 Gift Catalog:
Give a Parent a Break
Caring for a child with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) is stressful. Many parents spend 80 hrs/wk providing support; for many it is 24/7. You can give 10 hours of respite service, so they can take care of themselves, other family obligations, or just take a break.
Give a Kid a Job
People with I/DD want to work, just like everyone else. For young adults, finding a job in the community after high school is tough. You can provide a six-week internship for a youth with I/DD and help him or her get real work experience.
Give a Senior a Home
More than 700,000 older adults with I/DD live with elderly parents. What will happen to them when their parents can’t care for them anymore? You can help them avoid being institutionalized by supporting them to live in the community on their own.
