NCE Professional Development Events

Summer Leadership Institute

The 2019 NCE Summer Leadership Institute is not simply an event; The Arc’s National Conference of Executives strives to provide attendees with engaging dialogue and discussion, as well as educational materials that will help individuals develop and hone their professional skills. Our goal is for all of us to work better and smarter towards our shared purpose – ensuring people with intellectual and development disabilities achieve their full civil and human rights and are fully included in their communities.

The theme of the 2019 Summer Leadership Institute is Leading Through Times of Social and Civil Change. “While systems vary across the country, today’s challenges faced by people with I/DD and their families are universal: future planning, community integration, education, housing, employment, self-determination, access to justice, advocacy, empowerment of self-advocates, health disparities, and solving the DSP crisis, to name a few.  The Arc has long stood at the forefront of advocacy for the human rights of people with I/DD and our chapters work diligently to address these challenges, approaching them as opportunities to effectively meet the needs of a diverse, ever-changing, I/DD community. Join us in Charleston as we discuss how to continue our evolution as service providers and the innovations and leadership required to advocate and serve people with I/DD and their families and bring about the social and civil change required for full inclusion.

The Summer Leadership Institute is that perfect opportunity to immerse yourself in developing skills that can be directly applied back on the job, as well as building a network to provide advice, a sounding board or even tools and supports.  Scholarships will cover registration to the Summer Leadership Institute and the signature evening event.  Join us!

Professional Development Seminar
The 2019 Professional Development Seminar will build on the 2019 SLI experience by providing a deeper experiential look at key issues facing our chapters that impact our ability to successfully meet the needs of people with I/DD.  This year’s Seminar will be a Leadership Development track running through convention that will allow attendees to interact with experts on the chosen topics and explore how to implement the learning back in their organizations with the help of their peers.  Spread across the 3 days of convention, this executive/senior management experience allows you to learn and interact with your peers in a over the course of 6 sessions and build relationships that will carryover long past convention.

Did I mention The National Convention?  That’s right, if you are planning on attending Convention then adding on the Professional Development Seminar is easy! If you’re interested in attending the Professional Development Seminar, adding The National Convention to your trip will give you a well-rounded, not-to-be-missed experience. The focused time you will spend with your colleagues in the Professional Development Seminar session track will be supplemented with opportunities to interact and engage with I/DD professionals, self-advocates, and family members from around the country.

The Professional Development Seminar is that perfect opportunity to get some specialized, focused professional development. Scholarships will cover registration to the Professional Development Seminar, registration to The Arc Convention and the NCE Awards Luncheon. Join us in Washington, DC!
