Health Care Issues for People with Disabilities

Now is the time to take a closer look at your health care needs and options. If you're uninsured or looking for more affordable health insurance and haven't looked at the Marketplace, you can purchase private health insurance coverage through the Marketplace. You must enroll before December 15 in order to have coverage on Jan 1. Open enrollment ends Feb 15. There are many things to consider even if you are already enrolled. View this flyer to find out what you should know, and possible changes to examine during this period of Open Enrollment. Enroll at healthcare.gov.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA)

Enactment of health care reform, known as the Affordable Care Act (ACA), is the most significant law for people with disabilities since the enactment of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in 1990. It brings about comprehensive reforms that will benefit Americans with disabilities by prohibiting discrimination based on health status and improving access to care. One major part of the ACA, the Private Marketplace, began offering health insurance in every state on October 1, 2013. HealthCare.gov provides information on coverage options in each state and shows which private insurance plans, public programs, and community services are available to individuals.
