The national office of The Arc hosts several events each year designed to bring together advocates, families, chapters, members and professionals in the intellectual and developmental disability community to share ideas, inspiration and resources. Foremost of these is the annual National Convention, held in cities throughout the U.S. each fall which attracts nearly 1000 people for educational sessions, business meetings and social events. Also, we host the Disability Policy Seminar each year on Capitol Hill for advocates and activists to learn about policy issues and meet with their representatives in Congress. This page is your source for information about upcoming events – bookmark us and check back often for new opportunities to get involved in the intellectual and developmental disability movement.
Disability Policy Seminar
The annual Disability Policy Seminar brings together advocates for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with public policy experts and the staff of six hosting organizations who serve people with I/DD to go in-depth on pressing policy issues and other topics of importance to the I/DD movement during two full-day sessions in Washington, D.C. The Seminar culminates with a third day spent on Capitol Hill where attendees have the opportunity to meet with their elected officials. Each year approximately 700 people take advantage of this chance to learn, discuss, network and advocate for change. Hosted by: The Arc, United Cerebral Palsy (UCP), Association of University Centers on Disabilities (AUCD), American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD), National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities (NACDD), and Self-Advocates Becoming Empowered (SABE).

The Arc & Sprout National Film Festival Puts the Spotlight on I/DD
The Arc has partnered with Sprout, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing innovative programming to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, to create a national film festival. Participating chapters are scheduling events across the country featuring films for, about and by people with I/DD. While providing an entertaining and educational experience for the audience, the films also give performers and other artists with I/DD a creative outlet and platform for their ideas. Find out more about film festival events near you by visiting the host chapter’s Website and check out Sproutflix.org for a sampling of films.

The Arc Racing Program
The Arc is excited to launch a partnership with RS Werkes, formerly Istook’s Motorsports to bring together the intellectual and developmental disability community and the racing world. The Arc Racing Program for the Pirelli World Challenge Series invited 20 individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, their support staff and staff from select chapters of The Arc to be honorary crew members at races across the country in 2013, giving them a unique race day experience and helping to raise awareness of The Arc and I/DD among racing fans everywhere.
